What people actually ask
What size portable power station do most people need?
For phones, a router and lights through an outage, 500 to 1,000 Wh is enough. Keeping a full-size refrigerator going for a day takes about 1,500 to 2,000 Wh. Running well pumps, central air or whole-home circuits needs a 3,000 Wh+ home-backup unit with 240 V output.
What's the difference between continuous and surge watts?
Continuous watts are what the inverter can supply indefinitely. Surge watts are a short peak, often for under a second, that lets motors and compressors start. A fridge or pump needs both numbers to be high enough.
Are boost modes like X-Boost real extra power?
No. Boost modes lower the voltage so heating appliances such as kettles or hair dryers run at reduced power instead of tripping the unit. They don't add capacity and don't help motors start.
Do all these power stations use LiFePO4 batteries?
Nearly all current models do. LiFePO4 is rated for about 3,000 to 4,000 cycles to 70 or 80% capacity, several times more than the NMC cells in older models, and is more thermally stable.
